"My Bead Table Blog Hop"

Lisa Lodge of Pine Ridge Treasures is hosting this blog hop. She sent each of the participants a group of beads from her bead table and we were required to use as many of them as we could and supplement with beads that were on our bead table.  We were not to go out and purchase any new beads.

These are the beads Lisa sent me.  An eclectic mix of pinks and greens (which I love) and a few others.

I admit I was really stumped.  What to make?!?  I thought and thought and just could not figure out what to do.  Luckily I love to work with seed beads and I had some on my workbench, I usually do!  I finally decided that the best way for me to design a piece was to do some free form peyote.  I had never done free form before so that also was a challenge.  I did a necklace and feel like I did justice to using as many of Lisa's beads as I could.  The only thing of mine that I added were the seed beads.  Lisa did send me some size 6 seed beads and I used them as well. I finished the back with one of the beaded pink beads and a peyote loop. I am not really pleased with how the necklace turned out, and I would never wear it,  but for my first time doing free form peyote I can say that it is a fun and very versatile stitch and I will do it again.  The thing that I love most about challenges was accomplished, I learned something new, worked outside of my comfort zone and grew as a designer.

Please visit the other participants and see what Lisa sent them and what they created.

  1. You know I felt the same way about my first attempt at free form and a full year later I found it in a box and was thrilled with it.

  2. Lisa certainly challenged us this time around. From the eclectic design of your seed bead necklace, I say you rose to the occasion!

  3. I'm glad you tackled freeform - it's my favorite: No Rules!! You just dig in and let the beads guide you. Looks like you had some very challenging beads to work with, so congrats!

  5. You did a wonderful job on the freeform peyote. I really need to shake my fear of it off and just do it. Love the colors in your piece. You know if you do not like it as a necklace (which by the way I think is very pretty) you could turn it into a cuff.

  6. Soyna, I think this looks pretty! I can't do a peyote stitch (or any stitch , for that matter - lol). Seed beads kind of scare me. Thanks so much for participating and for trying to make it work with the eclectic mix!

  7. I understand what you mean, I've got several pieces that I'm glad I made because I learned something, but I will end up frogging them. Freeform is very addictive, so don't stop with the first one. It really helped me understand design better, even though that sounds totally opposite of 'freeform'.

  11. I love the way your necklace looks like a flower garden. You did a wonderful job. I agree with Therese. If you don't like it as a necklace, I think the bottom portion would make a gorgeous cuff.

  14. I say you are off to a great start with freeform (which I still totally consider a swear word) It scares me to attempt it. Go with it and be free!!!
